Let’s face it, today’s technology allows for ample creativity with electronic music production whether remixing tunes at home or DJing live in clubs, lounges, and festivals. But how do you get ideas sounding like hits? You learn from the best.

Ableton Live workshop

In addition to being a musician, a producer / remixer, and a popular touring DJ, Jason Danielson aka JPOD the beat chef is also an experienced software developer. His affinity for organization and his understanding of complex software has allowed him to quickly advance as a completely self-taught Ableton master. He embraced the popular software program in 2007 and has since then been the go-to resource for many fellow well-known producers and DJs. Spend a few hours with Jason and open your mind to the endless creative possibilities.

Topics include:

  1. Efficiency: library creation | sample organization | production templates
  2. Drums: using Ableton’s racks to make custom drums quick and easy
  3. Bass: from sub to screech, creating big and complex basslines from scratch
  4. Tips & tricks: Ableton grooves | basic risers | advanced filtering
  5. DJing in ABLETON Live: warping | custom library | mixing basics | EQ & FX racks | touch-screen FX

EXCLUSIVE

In addition to the lecture Jason will provide each participant with some of his own drum kits, bass racks, and fx racks. These will be setup as Ableton 8.2 racks and include both Ableton instruments (mostly Operator) and 3rd party plugins (mostly Massive and Circle). Drum kits will only require drum rack. VALUED AT $200.

JPOD’s signature sound combines dropkick drums, bobblehead bass, and intelligent instrumentation that uniquely represents the flowering West-Coast Canada flavor. With highly original productions, remixes, and an innovative DJ style, JPOD’s live performances never fail to impress listeners and dancers alike, invariably creating an army of smiling faces. His Bluegrass & Gospel remix project this summer did exactly that. Listen: http://soundcloud.com/jpodtbc/grass-and-gospel

JPOD continues to energetically spread his sound to all open ears at clubs and festivals like Shambhala Music Festival’s legendary Fractal Forest stage, a headlining spot at Pop Okanagan this past fall, and regular appearances at Footwerk events at Sapphire Nightclub.

JPOD runs a cutting-edge digital label called Swing Set Sounds which is aimed not only at providing great music but also various tools for the new wave of producers and remix DJs. Lately he spends most days in the studio, always on a mission to discover new creative methods to apply to new music. His full length album “Halfsteppin’” is due out in January 2012.
